Curently project: "Scholarships for the pupils from countryside". A project appeared first in Romania in 2001, administrated by "Pro Ruralis" Association, Iasi.
Some of the hundreds of thousands of the children who live in the Moldavian villages from Romania have a special native intelligence. They look at you with big, surprised eyes, they look deep into you, thus thinking about their own chances in life. They shine like diamonds in their poor houses, with a violent, alcoholic father and a careless mother; sometimes they are sitting somewhere starving near an old grandmother, hardly remembering the face of their mother who left them and who didn't even wash for them, who didn't sew their only dress or their only pair of trousers.
I look at them seriously (as if I would have mature people in front of me) with the inner wish to give them back their beautiful smile and the confidence in their future. I suddenly wonder which one will be the next Mircea Eliade, the next Albert Einstein or Ernest Hemingway... I am sure this would not be an uthopical question to be asked, because these children truly have the potential to achieve something that great.
Their eyes give me the strength to defeat the indifference, the carelessness of some other people who sometimes forget there still exist such intelligent children but so poor ones.
